co-curricular programs

Get involved

Complementing Sacré Cœur’s academic program is our wide range of co-curricular opportunities, programs and events. Through our co-curricular offerings in Junior and Senior School, girls are encouraged to explore their passions, embrace new experiences, broaden their friendship circle and develop valuable life skills.

Our Joigny co-curricular program involves students from their first year in Prep. Prep to Year 2 students enjoy activities such as Chess Club, Code Club, yoga, tennis lessons, Garden Gang and Bow Rock (stringed instrumental group). In Years 3 and 4, we introduce House Sport, squad training (swimming, diving, cross country, athletics and after school sport), Poetry Club, Calm Club and Drama Club. In Years 5 and 6, additional opportunities include music ensembles, robotics and debating.

Senior School students choose from a rich variety of activities across sport, debating, public speaking, STEAM, language competitions and performing arts.

Girls Sport Victoria (GSV) sees our students compete against more than 20 girls' schools across Melbourne in a very wide range of sports. More than 16 music ensembles and choirs, School and House drama productions and festivals foster artistic development.

Further opportunities include the University of Melbourne Extension Program, National Youth Science Forum, National Mathematics Summer School, Robotics and Coding Challenges.

By representing their House, Sacré Cœur students can get involved in countless carnivals and activities including House Debating, House Swimming, House Diving, House Athletics, the House Arts Festival, House Aerobics and House Photography Competition.

Every student belongs to one of four Houses: Barat (green), Digby (yellow), Duchesne (blue) and Stuart (red).

A spirit of friendly competition and more than 135 years of inter-House rivalry adds to the excitement of participating and representing your House.

Sacré Cœur’s highly regarded performing arts program spans drama, music, and dance.

Our music program includes a broad choice of ensembles, choirs and private lessons, as well as numerous concerts and performance opportunities. The School has a rich choral and strings tradition that starts in Junior School and continues into Senior School.

In the dramatic arts space, students enjoy our highly anticipated annual House Arts Festival as well as the plays and musical productions we produce in partnership with St Kevin’s, De La Salle and Xavier. We also offer a popular lunchtime Improvisation Club.

Sport

While physical education forms part of every student’s academic program, our external sports programs are another way in which we see our students extend and challenge themselves. We are part of Girls Sport Victoria (GSV), competing in sports such as AFL, badminton, basketball, cricket, hockey, indoor cricket, netball, soccer, softball, tennis, volleyball and waterpolo.

Students may also participate in state competitions and events such as All Schools Cross Country and the Victorian School Netball Competition.

Environment and Sustainability

From the Green Team and Joigny Garden Gang in Junior School to recycling initiatives in Senior School, Sacré Cœur students strive to be agents of change, stewarding environmental consciousness and responsibility.

Social Justice

Our Social Justice Programs help students understand different perspectives as they build on their social skills, strength of character and faith. Some of the initiatives include Friday Night Tutoring for recently arrived migrants, Food Program, collating Christmas hampers for local charities, raising awareness and funding for domestic violence victims, including the McAuley Community Services for Women, and immersion in Sophie's Farm.

Leadership Opportunities

Underpinned by our focus on future-readiness, Sacré Cœur offers numerous student leadership opportunities. From our Junior School leaders through to House Leaders and Year 12 Prefects, learning to lead helps prepare our girls for their futures beyond the school gates.

External Programs

Specialised activities outside of the School help our students realise their full potential. Many of our students participate in activities such as robotics, university forums and lectures. We also encourage our students to take part in subject-specific competitions relating to English, French, Mathematics and Science subjects.
