About Sacré Cœur

Sacré Cœur is a leading Catholic, independent girls' school with a proud heritage of over 137 years of academic excellence.

Each student who enters our gates is welcomed into an inclusive community. With approximately 700 students from Prep to Year 12, we are large enough to offer a rich diversity of opportunities and just the right size so that every student is known. At Sacré Cœur, each student knows that she is valued, encouraged and celebrated for her uniqueness.

Prominently located in Glen Iris in Melbourne's inner south east, we are a school founded in the tradition of the Sacred Heart. As a member of an international Sacred Heart family, our students are welcomed into a global community.

Our history

Sacré Cœur, founded in 1888, is an independent Catholic school for girls from Prep to Year 12. Established by the Society of the Sacred Heart, the school is part of a global network of over 150 sister schools in 41 countries. Inspired by Saint Madeleine Sophie Barat’s vision for the education of girls, Sacré Cœur offers a unique education with a commitment to foster: faith in God, academic excellence, development of social responsibility, formation of an inclusive community and personal growth.

From its modest beginnings on our current site in Glen Iris, Sacré Cœur has grown to become one of Melbourne's best-known Catholic girls' schools, focused on an education that is holistic and which engages each student both academically and on being future ready.
